Few things are as painful as when tooth decay has reached the root of a tooth and has infected it. If an abscess forms it could become even more painful. It is up to our Woodmere dentist Dr. Kenneth Bergen, DDS to treat the problem. Often when a tooth decays and is infected our doctor will respond with root canal therapy. The term “root canal” can make even the strongest man wince but in reality a root canal in our office is a fairly straightforward procedure that with the advances in anesthesia and root canal technology should cause little or no pain. Our office is equipped with the state-of-the-art in dental equipment and technology and our compassionate professional staff will do their best to make the procedure painless and stress-free.

Root canal therapy is indicated when a tooth’s soft inner core of pulp is infected by decay. This usually happens because debris and bacteria get inside the tooth through a crack or chip in the protective layer of denton. Denton above the gum line is normally protected by the tooth’s enamel and under the gum line by the cementum. The infected pulp can cause severe pain, sensitivity to hot, cold or percussion. Our Woodmere dentist drills into the infected tooth root and cleans out the pulp, which is not essential to a fully developed tooth. Once the pulp has been removed the root is sealed so no new infection or decay can re-enter it. Often, a crown to keep it clean and safe from additional infection will then cover the tooth.

In addition to stopping the pain and sensitivity symptoms the root canal therapy is done to save the tooth. Without the procedure the tooth will likely have to be extracted to prevent a serious infection and possible abscess. By doing the root canal therapy our Woodmere dentist has given the tooth a new lease on life and it should remain a strong functional tooth. If you feel any pain or sensitivity in your tooth don’t wait, come into our office and have one of our doctors determine the root of your problem and how best to treat it.

If you have severe tooth pain, or have a tooth that hurts when you eat something that is hot or cold, you may have a damaged tooth that needs root canal therapy. At our dental practice, Kenneth Berger, DDS & Associates, our Woodmere dentist, Dr. Berger, can provide you with excellent and painless root canal therapy.

When the inside of the tooth has infected or damaged pulp, you will need to have root canal therapy in order to restore the tooth to excellent health. If you come to our dental practice with tooth pain, our Woodmere dentist will assess the exact cause of the tooth pain and let you know which type of treatment is necessary to correct it. If the tooth needs to have root canal therapy it is the only way that the tooth can be saved. If this treatment is not performed, the tooth will eventually fall out; it will not get better on its own. The good news is that root canal treatments can now be performed at our dental practice while our patient remains in total comfort. This is due to our use of modern dental techniques, technology, and anesthesia. Root canal treatments are able to save teeth in over 90% of cases. This is excellent news. But it is also important to visit our dentist as soon as possible, since the sooner a needed root canal treatment is performed, the more likely it is to be successful. During a root canal treatment, the damaged or infected pulp is removed from the tooth, and the tooth and root canal systems are thoroughly cleaned and sealed. Once a tooth has fully matured, the pulp is no longer needed, so removing the pulp from the tooth will have no effect on the health of the tooth. There are many causes for pulp damage which can include infection, gum disease, or even tooth trauma. Once infected pulp is removed, the tooth will usually return to good health.

From regular six month exams to gum treatments, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and more, our Woodmere dental care is focused on your overall oral health as well as helping you to have the beautiful and ideal smile that you want. Here at Kenneth Berger, DDS & Associates, it’s our goal to provide attentive, gentle, expert dentistry for your entire family, including pediatric dentistry. It’s part of our well-earned reputation as your local dentist.

Prevention and early detection form the foundation of our Woodmere dental care. We recommend that you visit our local dentist two times per year for a complete oral examination that encompasses a visual and physical inspection of your teeth and gums, restorations, supporting structures, occlusion (bite), and a screening for oral cancer. And we take pride in offering state-of-the-art technology in the form of digital x-rays, which give you all the benefits of traditional x-rays with only a fraction of the radiation exposure.

If you do have a cavity, our Woodmere dental care has an array of helpful materials for fillings, such as composite, amalgam, ceramic, and plastic. A tooth that is cracked, chipped, or weakened by decay can be strengthened with a crown. And crowns are also great cosmetic tools, giving a discolored or crooked tooth a makeover. Speaking of cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening done in our office or in a handy take-home version, will let you have the brighter smile you’ve been wanting. Or for more challenging aesthetic concerns, thin shells of porcelain called veneers can be placed over the fronts of your teeth to make your smile look brand new again.

Not all teeth that have become decayed or infected are savable, and if you need an extraction, our Woodmere dental care handles it with a minimum of discomfort. And thanks to bridges, dentures, and the most advanced tooth replacement of all, implants, you can get your full smile back again, effectively and simply. We’re also pleased to represent Invisalign, to give you all the advantages of traditional orthodontic treatment, but without the drawbacks that are so commonly associated with wearing metal braces. They are nearly invisible to the eye, and because they are made of plastic, they won’t irritate your mouth or cause discomfort.

We create individual smiles that compliment a patient’s facial features and enhance their overall facial beauty. Our cosmetic dental office seeks to establish facial harmony where the smile is not the central focal point, but enhances the overall facial appearance. Cosmetic dental services may help assist you in achieving the smile that you’ve always dreamed of. If you are looking to fix an unaesthetic or unattractive tooth problem, look no further. We provide a wide array of cosmetic dentistry including veneers, crowns, and teeth whitening. If dental crowns are right for you, restoring and replacing your teeth will surely restore your beautiful smile. As far as a dental restoration goes, crowns and caps are used synonymously. Porcelain dental crowns are synthetic caps placed on the top of a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance following a restorative procedure, such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, porcelain dental are often used to restore the tooth. We may also use dental crowns to attach bridges, cover implants, or to prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse. If your tooth or teeth aren’t missing and merely have gaps, chips, stains, or are misshapen, then veneers are for you. Porcelain dental crowns are sometimes confused with veneers, but they are quite different. Veneers are typically applied only to relatively small areas. They are natural in appearance, and are a perfect alternative for patients wanting to make minor adjustments to the look and feel of their smile. Porcelain dental crowns are not only strong and durable, but restore the look of natural teeth and are very aesthetically pleasing. We also offer the most commonly recommended and practiced cosmetic dental procedure, tooth whitening, which removes stains on teeth. If you are a candidate for teeth whitening, teeth can generally get three to eight shades brighter and it usually only takes several 30- to 60-minute in-office visits.

At our Woodmere dentist office, we believe that people look different, and their teeth look different, so every patient receives a customized service. On the other hand, all patients are equally important and treated as friends and family. At the office of Kenneth Berger, DSS & Associates, we will determine the best possible solution to restore your teeth based on your individual needs. Regardless of which method is right for you, our dentistry services will surely restore your beautiful smile.
